about this artwork: The repeated motif throughout Teresa’s painting represents dancing lines. When women perform awelye – women’s ceremony – they paint their upper bodies, shoulders, chest and breasts, with ground ochres, charcoal and ash. Teresa’s painting reflects the short-repeated dancing movements that are performed by the women for the particular story that they are retelling through their dance and song.
