about this painting:  This painting depicts designs related to the site of Talarrata, an area of low lying country west of Nyirrpi which becomes a shallow fresh water lake after periods of extended rain.  The site has an associated story which refers to a water snake, which after visiting Talarrata continued travelling to the north. While the snake was at Talarrata it dug numerous holes to sleep in.  These holes are represented by the roundels.

Ngoia’s paintings capture the land in a state of constant change. She uses a signature “dotting” technique to show the salt crusts cracking and the water evaporating under the fierce desert sun. The repeating oval shapes represent the physical waterholes where the snake resides.
