about this painting: This work is titled Mamultjulkunga, representing a soakage water site located northwest of Lake Mackay, where Tjungurrayi’s father passed away. This location holds great cultural significance, as it was a campsite for two Tingari men—one from the Tjangala kinship subsection and the other from the Tjapaltjarri kinship subsection. Following rainfall, the claypan transforms into a freshwater lake. The region is notable for the presence of Tecticornia verrucosa, a sub-shrub whose seeds are traditionally harvested, ground into a paste, and cooked over coals to produce unleavened bread.
