about this painting:  This is a popular dreamtime story of seven ladies being chased through the desert by one man.  He wanted to marry the women, but they were of the wrong skin name and not allowed to marry.  The women escape the man by rising up in to the sky and forming seven stars. They form the Peliades constellation, which can be seen in the southern sky.  The man followed the women, and he also turned into a star (Orion).
